Bio

As a child he showed much creativity and interest in plastic. At just 4 years old, he spent long hours drawing superheroes and comics, inventing fantastical stories. In his youth, he opted for illustration and caricatures, speech and poetry.

Following his artistic vocation, at the age of 25 he entered the Colegio de Bellas Artes Juan José Plaza de Guayaquil, where amongst his teachers were Luis Peñaherrera, Luis López, the ceramicist Moya and the sculptor Evelio Tandazo. He also studied in Quito with painter Oswaldo Moreno, who encouraged him to loosen his brushstroke and create consistent expressions of his passion.

After this, he began very strong in his pictorial production, in which is reflected his passion for the human figure. He held his first formal exhibition at the Latin American Meeting of Plastic Artists (Asociación Cultural Las Peñas).

In the late 90s, Valverde held several collective exhibitions presenting art now classified as contemporary social realism, in which he criticizes current society. In his paintings, he reflects the emotions and feelings of the human being, the body and soul. He demonstrates the beauty of the human figure, its spirit and soul. Human emotions, from despair, tenderness, fears, abandonment, support and love of couple, forgiveness.

From 2017 he began a highly productive phase, showing a profound change in his work. His brushstroke became looser and more vigorous. The irony of his earlier works lay behind him as he embraced a new language – a more direct, sincere and humane one.
